SH-Outreach-04: RAONE - 2025, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India - 17 October 2025
Date: 17 October 2025
Event: RAONE - 2025 organized by Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SRM IST College of Engineering and Technology
Attendees: Students B.Tech.Â
Game Coordinated by: Dr. Soumya R Routray, Research Assistant Professor, SRM University, Chennai
Game Description Presented by: Rupam Goswami
The game, SemE-Chess, was presented and played as a part of the recently organized Professional Development Program on Recent Advancement on Organic and Nanoelectronics (RAONE) - 2025 at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India. The initiative was planned and hosted by Dr. Soumya R Routray, one of the key members of the SemE-Hub Group. For the first time, the educational game was played as a fun contest, and tokens of appreciation were awarded to the top three participants on the basis of duration of time played, number of moves, and number of captures. Rupam Goswami, our SemE-Hub editor, explained the rules, and most importantly the semiconductor concepts based on which the game is designed. The participants provided their constructive feedback on improving features of the game, including the level of difficulty of the bot in single player mode, which has now been incorporated after the event.
SH-Outreach-03: European Researchers' Night 2025, Modena, Italy - 26 September 2025
In the European Researchers' Night 2025 held on 26 September 2025 at Modena, Italy, SemE-Hub Editor, Rupam Goswami, was a part of a team along with his research supervisors, which demonstrated the fun-filled SemE-Chess game as a part of the exhibition. The team presented scientific content on the topic 'How much energy do your electronics consume?' in line with the AttoSwitch project carried out at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Enzo Ferrari - UniversitĂ di Modena e Reggio Emilia. Check out the complete LinkedIn posts here: LINK 1, LINK 2.
As known to our learners, the SemE-Chess has pieces in the form of transistors (MOSFET, Tri-Gate FinFET, GAA FET, Tunnel FET and Graphene FET), which were used to explain the concept of the Dirac Source FET - the theme of the AttoSwitch project. The game helped visitors understand (a) importance of speed/ performance and energy consumption in transistors, (b) evolution of GAA structures, and (c) integration of 2D materials on one hand, and geometry on the other hand to have an ultralow power transistor.
